The starting point is at the Elgert cemetery. Initially, the path leads through the Elgert forest towards the towns of Woldert and Roßbach. Before Roßbach, we continue hiking over meadows and field paths and then turn towards Maroth and the Maroth forest lake. From there, we return through Elgert to the parking lot at the cemetery.
The round trip is about nine kilometers long and pleasantly easy to walk with little elevation.
From the A3 exit Dierdorf, towards Dierdorf. At the town exit of Dierdorf, turn left towards Wienau and follow the signs towards Elgert.

From the starting point at the Elgert cemetery parking lot, we follow a firm path for a short distance of about 150m westwards. Our hiking route is marked with a wild boar image. These can be found on posts, on trees, benches, and hunting stands. We continue hiking northward on the former old stagecoach road, which leads left to Hanroth and straight ahead to Steimel and Woldert. Along our path, information boards set up by hunters and foresters accompany us at intervals.
After about 2 km, the hiking trail leads us eastward. Along the forest edge past meadows and fields, we soon turn north again into the forest and follow the path towards Roßbach. After about 4 km, we emerge from the forest onto large meadow areas with distant views of the Westerwald and its wind turbines. The first houses of Roßbach also become visible. Individual benches invite you to linger. Across these meadows, we now arrive at the Heiderück farm and pass by the mill farm. Then we cross the L268 and the Grenzbach, which feeds the forest lake at Maroth.
The Grenzbach bears its name rightly, as here the Verbandsgemeinden Puderbach, Dierdorf, Hachenburg, and Selters, and thus the counties Neuwied and Westerwald, meet. Behind waterfront trees, the long-out-of-operation Roßbach grain mill can be seen.
Our path now runs through the forest again to the Maroth forest lake. Those who want to stop at the Seehaus guesthouse can take a small detour from the Wild Boar Route here. Everyone else follows the hiking trail on the western shore of the lake. At the end, we then turn westwards towards Elgert. The path here runs again through meadows and fields into the village of Elgert. There, we pass a lovingly restored bakery, from where it goes to the village center with the village square and fire station and back to the parking lot at the cemetery.

Along the route and at the forest lake, benches and cozy spots invite you to linger again and again, as does the Seehaus guesthouse.
