Description

On this WesterwaldSteig section, Bad Marienberg awaits you with many highlights: barefoot trail, pharmacist's medicinal plant garden, basalt park, wildlife park with Hedwig tower and climbing forest, as well as the large and small wolf stones. In the spa town, there are many opportunities to stop for refreshments before you continue hiking to Hachenburg. Enjoy fantastic views along the way – sometimes as far as the Siebengebirge! Hachenburg announces itself from afar with its baroque castle. In the town itself, you can visit the Westerwald Landscape Museum, stroll comfortably over the Old Market, or enjoy the half-timbered backdrop in one of the numerous cafés or restaurants.

Public transport

The Hessische Landesbahn usually runs hourly between the two stations (travel time approx. 9 minutes).

Directions

The access path from the Nistertal-Bad Marienberg station to the main path is approx. 1 km long. In Hachenburg, an approx. 300 m long access path leads you to the station.

The access paths are marked with a green "W" on a yellow background, and the signposts have a yellow arrow tip.

Safety instructions

  • If you believe certain sections of the path are not passable for you, you should avoid them. Especially in adverse weather conditions, natural paths can become muddy and slippery.
  • In autumn, be aware that fallen leaves may cover unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. You should expect such path impairments when hiking.
  • Although the path is very well marked throughout, for safety reasons you should always carry a suitable hiking map or download the free "Rheinland-Pfalz erleben" app.

Equipment

  • Wear sturdy footwear as well as weather-appropriate, functional clothing that protects against cold, wetness, heat, and sun.
  • Take enough fluids with you. There are not always places to stop and eat or drink.
  • Please wear hiking shoes suitable for the trail, which also provide enough support on slippery, steep, rocky, and uneven paths.

Tips

Park your car at the destination and first take the train to the starting point of your route. Then you can relax and hike back without any time pressure.
