The WesterwaldSteig trail connects Herborn in Hesse with Bad Hönningen on the Rhine and leads through beautiful landscapes. You'll encounter interesting animals at the Herborn Zoo (Uckersdorf), the wildlife park in Bad Marienberg, or in the Grenzbachtal valley. There are numerous impressive viewpoints, such as the Weißenfelser Ley and the Roßbacher Häubchen in the Rhine-Westerwald Nature Park. The hiking trail leads through picturesque villages, historic towns, and past culturally significant sites. The half-timbered village of Mehren, the medieval town of Hachenburg, and the Marienstatt and Marienthal monasteries are all worth seeing. You'll also repeatedly encounter the life and work of Raiffeisen. You'll pass numerous lakes and waterways and can refresh yourself or go boating at the Heisterberger Weiher, the Krombachtalsperre reservoir, and the Westerwald Lake District.
