In the tour planner we inform you under the tab "Current info" about temporary route changes, closures and detours.
The hike along the path runs over forest and meadow trails and includes beautiful viewpoints. Panorama boards explain the view and illuminate the surrounding landscape also from the perspective of earth and mining history. The path is also an official geo-route of the Westerwald-Lahn-Taunus Geopark. Valuable fossil finds from the Devonian period were discovered during construction work on the A3 near Willroth and Krunkel, which are explained at the so-called "Devon Square".
Good signposting, detailed information, and the careful choice of the trail routes make the "Water Path" a very special experience. Many further informations on geology and mining history are available via additional QR codes on the information boards.
The Water Path Krunkel-Epgert was created with financial support from the Naturpark Rhein-Westerwald by the local community of Krunkel and with support from the improvement association Krunkel-Epgert, and opened in September 2020.
Take the A3 to the "Neuwied" exit and then head towards Wilroth. At the end of the village turn left onto L 270 towards Krunkel.
Take the train to Altenkirchen, from there take bus line 120 or 173 (e.g., from Horhausen).

You will find free parking:
At the starting point: Water house, near Mittelstraße 20, in 56593 Krunkel
At the Epgert kindergarten: Auf der Burg 4, in 56593 Krunkel/Epgert (larger number of parking spaces available)
Twice a small ditch must be crossed on stepping stones and a terrain slope climbed via steps. Some caution is advised.
Sturdy hiking shoes recommended
In Willroth, you will find the headframe of the Georg mine. Visits can be arranged via the VG Altenkirchen-Flammersfeld.
