Romantic gorge with stream
The Holzbach Gorge between Seck, Gemünden, and Winnen is considered one of the most beautiful nature reserves of the Westerwald. Since 1929, the approximately one-kilometer-long and up to 30 meters deep gorge has been protected. Over thousands of years, the Holzbach has carved its way through basalt rock, creating an impressive landscape with steep cliff walls, moss-covered rocks, and natural streams.
A special experience is offered by the bird learning trail opened in 2020. Along the circular path, informative display panels provide details about the native bird species. QR codes allow visitors to listen to the calls of the birds, making the walk an interactive nature experience. The idea and implementation come from biologist and internationally renowned DJ Dominik Eulberg, who aims to inspire people about the local nature.
The circular path leads through the gorge on both sides of the Holzbach and can be walked in about 45 minutes. Information boards provide interesting facts about the local fauna and flora. Sturdy footwear is recommended, as the paths lead over roots and stones and can be slippery in wet weather. There is a place to stop for refreshments near the circular path.
