Hiking Trail
Route profile
Notice
In the tour planner we inform you under the tab "Current info" about temporary route changes, closures and detours.
From the starting point, the path leads from Bahnhofstraße and Untergasse through the old town center, where timber-framed houses from the 16th to 18th centuries can still be admired. Past the large meadow, the path continues to a bridge over the Salzbach to an old waterworks. Once there, follow the second path to the right along the forest edge, where you have a beautiful view of nature that you can enjoy in peace and quiet from a resting bench. The route leads into a beautifully maintained hunting area. The dense deciduous forest with old beech trees contrasts attractively with the gentle hilly landscape with pasture areas. On natural paths, you have another beautiful view of the surrounding villages in the Westerwald. At the edge of the village of Thalheim, you cross the Salzbach bridge built around 1900 and continue the path along the wooded shore. At the Neumühle, the path branches left through a splendid nature reserve with open forest clearings. The last section leads over a very narrow forest path that changes from deciduous to spruce forest along its course. Back on a paved path, along Bornfelsgasse and past the beautiful village fountain in Niederzeuzheim, lies the small village museum on the Backhausberg, which can be visited by appointment.
You can take the train to the P & R parking lot in Niederzeuzheim and start the hike from there.
Parking spaces are available at the P & R at the station in Niederzeuzheim.
Wear sturdy footwear as well as weather-appropriate, functional clothing that protects you from cold and wet or heat and sun.
Take enough fluids with you. There are not always places to stop for food and drink.
Please wear appropriate hiking boots that provide sufficient grip even on slippery and steep or rocky and uneven paths.
If you believe that certain sections of the trail are not passable for you, you should avoid them. Especially in adverse weather conditions, natural paths can have muddy and slippery sections.
In particular, in autumn, be aware that fallen leaves on the ground can conceal unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. You should expect such trail impairments when undertaking a hike.
Although the trail is consistently very well marked, for safety reasons you should always carry a suitable hiking map with you.
Nature lovers will get their money's worth on this circular hiking route.
