RWW 8: Hadamar/Faulbach/Niederhadamar

Description

On the same route as the RWW 7, you hike to the Höhenfelder Hof. Further along through open fields, you have a wonderful view over the Hadamar region. Part of the route runs along an unpaved path, which is, however, easily passable in dry weather. Downhill, the vegetation becomes lush again, and islands with field woods spread out across the gently rolling landscape. The now asphalted path, which turns left shortly before the Elbbach bridge, leads through the idyllic meadow floodplains of the Elbbach to the district road between Niederhadamar and Limburg-Offheim. The benches under the shady trees in front of the Wendelinus chapel invite you to a welcome break. The St. Wendelin bridge to cross, the oldest stone bridge in Hesse, goes far back into Niederhadamar's past. Already in the Middle Ages, it was crossed by traders who wanted to go east from the Rhine-Mosel area, as the bridge was part of an important east-west long-distance route. The oldest parts of this cultural monument were built by the Cistercian monks after 1190. Just behind the railway crossing in Niederhadamar, turn right into Plauderstraße and then follow the railway line to Steinstraße. You follow this for a short section and then use the field path just before the beginning of the buildings, which continues to the right along the edge of the town. The path passes the grounds of the state glass technical school, one of the most important training centers of glass finishing in Germany. Now follow the street “Am Steinkreuz,” which passes the Jewish cemetery at the end. An information board draws attention to this protected cultural monument. There are still about 30 gravestones here, most of which no longer bear inscriptions. Via the street “Am Judenfriedhof” and the “Neue Chaussee,” past the castle and the town hall, you return to the parking lot.

Directions

From the Herzenberg plateau, you hike via Faulbach to the Höhenfelder Hof. From there, you go through the fields over the Wendelinus bridge to Niederhadamar. Between Mainzer Landstraße and the railway line, the path leads into the residential area and past the Jewish cemetery to the railway crossing at the station. From here, you go back through the town center up to the Herzenberg.

Wear sturdy footwear as well as weather-appropriate, practical clothing that protects you from cold and wet or heat and sun.

Take enough fluids with you. Not everywhere are there places to stop and eat.

Please wear hiking boots appropriate for the path, which provide enough grip even on slippery and steep or rocky and uneven paths.

If you think certain sections of the path are not passable for you, you should bypass them. Especially in adverse weather conditions, natural paths can have muddy and slippery passages.

In autumn, be aware that fallen leaves on the ground can hide unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. You should expect path impairments of this type when hiking.

Although the path is very well marked throughout, for safety reasons you should always have a suitable hiking map with you.

Tips

Visit the Herzenberg chapel and the rose garden on the Herzenberg. From there, enjoy the beautiful view of Hadamar reaching into the Lahn valley.
