Notice
In the tour planner we inform you under the tab "Current info" about temporary route changes, closures and detours.
From the starting point at the multipurpose hall, follow the signs to the entrance of the forest area and continue along RWW 11 and the long-distance cycle route No. 8 on an asphalted path to the village entrance of Hangenmeilingen. After only a few steps into the village, the path turns right uphill to the southern boundary of the 114-hectare nature reserve "Heidenhäuschen." Upon entering the forest, continue on the forest path to a sharp left turn, behind which a primeval ridge ascends along trail tracks. After the ascent, you reach the Celtic ring wall, an impressive rock gallery made of massive basalt blocks. This olivine basalt was formerly used for the production of cobblestones. At the top, you are rewarded with a beautiful wide view of the Elbbach Valley from Westerburg to Limburg and can enjoy the peace and nature. The descent leads back on the forest path past the pilgrimage site "Seven Sorrows" back to the starting point.
There is a train connection to Niederzeuzheim.
There is NO train connection to Oberzeuzheim.
Parking is available at the multipurpose hall in Oberzeuzheim.
Wear sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate, functional clothing that protects you from cold and wet or heat and sun.
Take enough fluids with you. There are not always places to stop for refreshments.
Please wear hiking boots appropriate for the trail, providing enough support even on slippery, steep, rocky, or uneven paths.
If you find certain trail sections impassable for you, you should avoid them. Especially in adverse weather conditions, natural trails can have muddy and slippery sections.
In autumn, pay attention that fallen leaves may cover unevenness, roots, stones, or holes on the path. Expect such trail impairments when hiking.
Although the path is very well marked throughout, for safety reasons you should always carry a suitable hiking map.
At the top of the ring wall, you are rewarded with a beautiful wide view of the Elbbach Valley from Westerburg to Limburg and can enjoy the vastness and tranquility of nature. A rest shelter invites you to picnic.
