Mammelzen - AK Bike Route 8 "The Small Route"

Description

Even though the first kilometer through Reuffelbach is a bit strenuous, we can already look forward to the following downhill ride to Eichelhardt. Part of the forest and meadow areas that we see from here will be passed through, allowing us to experience the diversity of this region.

Behind the turnoff to Isert on the left side lies the former old school and the community center, on the right we can look far into the landscape of the "Kroppacher Schweiz"; for lovers of alpine hiking or experienced mountain bikers, ideal conditions are offered here.

Via Nassen and Volkerzen, it goes back into the stream valley, which we already got to know from above at the beginning of the route.

The way back leads over the ridge west of Mammelzen, the Dieperzberg. We pass the archery practice ground and have a wonderful view of the Altenkirchen town area before descending to Mammelzen.

Approach

The starting point in Mammelzen can be reached via the B 256 (between Altenkirchen and Wissen) and is located directly next to the Mammelzen cemetery.

Public transport

The bike route is easily accessible both via Obererbach train station (1 km) and Altenkirchen train station (3 km).
The Regionalbahn 90 (Siegen-Au-Altenkirchen-Limburg) runs here every half or full hour.

Directions

Turn right onto the bike path at the B 256 until the end of the village, cross B 256, diagonally right downhill, in the valley turn right to Eichelhardt, go straight through the village, cross street left towards Racksen, before Racksen turn left along the forest, after approx. 300 m turn left downhill again through Nassen and Volkerzen, in the valley turn right to Hacksen, here left through the "Bachstrasse", cross the connecting road to Reuffelbach and continue uphill straight ahead, along the forest edge, past the sports field and at the next crossroads left, downhill to Mammelzen, keep diagonally left, cross Siegener Strasse, follow the bike path on the left for about 200 m, right side street (follow signs to community center).

Tips

Above the village of Nassen, a detour to the former Marienthal monastery, now a restaurant, is worthwhile. Follow the signage "Westerwald loop" for this.
