Description

In 1879, Raiffeisen intended to set up a "Societas Caritatis" ("Society for social nursing with special consideration for the rural population" as a non-denominational community on a voluntary basis). This society was to focus mainly on caring for the elderly. He was thinking of designing this "Societas Caritatis" along the lines of the Waldbreitbach religious communities. In addition, Waldbreitbach's mayor Reusch had contact with Raiffeisen in 1868 in connection with the founding of a loan and savings association in Waldbreitbach. In 1862, Raiffeisen supported the founding of the Anhausen savings and loan association. This association was a further step towards the development of rural cooperatives.
