In 1879, Raiffeisen intended to set up a "Societas Caritatis" ("Society for social nursing with special consideration for the rural population" as a non-denominational community on a voluntary basis). This society was to focus mainly on caring for the elderly. He was thinking of designing this "Societas Caritatis" along the lines of the Waldbreitbach religious communities. In addition, Waldbreitbach's mayor Reusch had contact with Raiffeisen in 1868 in connection with the founding of a loan and savings association in Waldbreitbach. In 1862, Raiffeisen supported the founding of the Anhausen savings and loan association. This association was a further step towards the development of rural cooperatives.
Klosterbergterrassen, Margaretha-Flesch-Straße 12, 56588 Waldbreitbach
VRM line 131 to Waldbreitbach Mitte and from there a 2 km walk to the Klosterberg
The start and finish is at the monastery of the Franciscan Sisters of Waldbreitbach, Margaretha-Flesch-Straße 12, 56588 Waldbreitbach. If the weather is fine, the monastery mountain terraces are also open (otherwise the restaurant) and you have a beautiful view of the monastery of the Franciscan brothers in Hausen and the Malberg. From there, the route takes you via the Wäller Tour Bärenkopp down to the Kreuzkapelle chapel and along the banks of the Wied through Raiffeisenstraße to the Nativity Scene and Bible Museum. We continue on the WesterwaldSteig trail to the monastery of the Franciscan Brothers of the Holy Cross in Hausen / Wied. We follow the trail to Niederbreitbach to the campsite, where we then head up to the Nikolauskapelle chapel and over the Clausberg and then along the Klosterweg trail back to the Marienhaus.
The tour does not have its own markings, we recommend using the Wiedtal hiking map and printing out the description.
At the end, you can stop for refreshments at the Klosterbergterrassen.
