Notice
In the tour planner we inform you under the tab "Current info" about temporary route changes, closures and detours.
The path from Schöneberg leads me from the Wied valley up to the Lippersberg. Around 1900, the former mining area "Emma" and the mine "Schöne Aussicht" were located on the hillside. Ore was also mined in other areas here, and remains of an old blast furnace indicate much older ore processing.
I also walk past fallen spruces that have fallen victim to the bark beetle. Clearing areas and young replantings reveal interesting views of small valleys and varied hilly landscapes that had previously remained hidden.
I cross the small Breibach valley and hike back towards Schöneberg at about 300 m elevation. I get a great panoramic view over the village, which even had a small castle from 1500. It most probably stood on the plateau where the church is today.I also find historic half-timbered houses in the village itself, where my hike ends enjoyably at the inn "Dorfkrug".
Via B 256 from the direction of Horhausen/Flammersfeld or the A3 or also from Altenkirchen
Bus line 120 stops at the federal road (6 min walk to Schöneberg) and shuttles daily between Altenkirchen and Neuwied.
On weekdays and Saturdays with hourly connections, on Sundays about every 2 hoursAltenkirchen (Westerwald) is accessible by train connection.
Timetable information
In the village, 57638 Schöneberg, there are sufficient free parking spaces available.
My path begins very close to the Wied Bridge in the street "In der Au". Before crossing the mill ditch, it turns left. Just before the visible building on the hillside, it goes up to Lippersberg. My path winds up the hill and my gaze sweeps along the right edge of the path and down into the valley to see if anything of the former ore mining can still be seen.
I also walk past fallen spruces that have fallen victim to the bark beetle. Clearing areas and young replantings reveal interesting views of small valleys and varied hilly landscapes that have previously remained hidden.
At the top, I come across a wide gravelled timber haulage road. My path leads left and a few meters further it goes diagonally right down into the Breibach valley.
The Breibach Farm still belongs to Schöneberg, but not the village of Breibach itself, which is already in the Puderbach collective municipality.
I cross the small Breibach valley and hike up to about 300 m elevation towards L 267, which is commonly called "Langguck" here due to its straight course.
Now I cross the asphalt road and continue on a natural path through the state forest and from the south direction back to Schöneberg.
I get a great panoramic view over the village, which even had a small castle from 1500.
My path leads along a small spring brook and crosses the street "In der Ley" to return to the village. Past historic half-timbered houses, I reach the village centre again, where my hike ends enjoyably in the inn "Dorfkrug".
In the winter months, the quality of some path sections may be impaired due to timber extraction work.
Sturdy footwear, weather-appropriate, practical clothing
From Schöneberg, you can also wonderfully hike the Wied path. Various bus lines also bring me back from the endpoints on weekends. Infos Wiedweg
