Description

After the top view from the Barbaraturm, the path offers you an unobstructed view and you get an impression of Malberg with its districts Hommelsberg and Steineberg. On the hike, you feel above it all – starting at the Barbaraturm at an altitude of almost 450 m above sea level offers you a panoramic view over the wooded landscape of the Westerwald with a direct view of Hachenburg Castle. In clear weather, the Siebengebirge on the Rhine is within arm's reach. From there, a fresh wind often blows – a well-known feature of the Westerwald. It feels good to breathe in the healthy mountain air deeply.

Directions

The route starts and ends at the Barbaraturm. There are parking spaces available there. We start from the Barbaraturm heading southwest. Here it goes slightly downhill over field paths to the Malberg district of Hommelsberg. We are on the first section of the path to the main road in Malberg on the Druidensteig. The path leads us around the Catholic filial church "Maria Mutter der Kirche" and past the monument for the fallen soldiers of the community in the world wars. Then the path winds through the center of Hommelsberg.

It then turns into Gartenstraße – the lower street of the scenic new development area of the Malberg local community. On this path, we leave the built-up area and reach the district of Steineberg from the south via a paved farm road. We walk a bit through the current new development area, cross the main road past the village bell, continue a bit through Poststraße and then on a good farm road and finally over a piece of Bindweider Straße back to the starting point, which is also the end of the circular route at the Barbaraturm.

Along the entire circular route, there are good views of the community of Luckenbach in the valley of the Kleine Nister, into the Kroppacher Schweiz, the Siebengebirge, the wind turbines near Mörsbach and Gebhardshain, as well as the wind park on the Hartenfelser Kopf south of Hachenburg.
