Description

The 6.4 km circular route leads along the Schwarze Nister, which flows into the Große Nister after about 13 kilometers in the district of Langenbach. Further along, you pass through the Basalt Park with its lake, educational trail, and interesting exhibits.

You can take a small break afterward in one of the lovely cafés on Bismarckstraße.

Approach

- From Cologne: A3 exit Hennef/Sieg via B8 and B414 to Bad Marienberg

- From Frankfurt: A3 exit Limburg via B54 and B414 to Bad Marienberg

- From Dortmund: A45 exit Haiger/Burbach via B54 and B414 to Bad Marienberg

- From Gießen: A45 exit Herborn via B255 and B414 to Bad Marienberg

- From Koblenz: A48 and A3 exit Montabaur via B255 to Bad Marienberg

Public transport

Nistertal/Bad Marienberg train station; take bus no. 483 or 962 to Bad Marienberg - Neuer Weg stop

The bus runs Monday to Friday

Parking

Free parking is available at the Tourist Information, Wilhelmstraße 10, 56470 Bad Marienberg.

Directions

Follow the directions from M1 to the city exit towards Langenbach. Then take M3 to the right down through the valley of the Schwarze Nister to the district of Langenbach. There, go up the Zinhainer Weg and turn left before the old railway embankment through Carl-Goerdeler-Allee. After the last houses, turn right uphill to the district of Zinhain. Cross Bismarckstraße at the MarienBad and follow M3 through the Basalt Park and the Park of the Senses back to the starting point.

Safety instructions

Especially in autumn, be aware that fallen leaves on the ground can cover unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. Such path impairments must be expected on every hike.

Equipment

Wear sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate, practical clothing that protects you from cold and moisture or heat and sun.

Tips

The Basalt Park offers you interesting insights into the history of basalt mining and provides a great view of the basalt lake. Free entry.
