The quiet valley of the Köttingsbach initially rises gently, later with a somewhat steeper ascent from Wissen to the district of Köttingerhöhe with beautiful views. Several hiking trails run through the Köttingsbach city forest, e.g., the access path to the Westerwaldsteig from RegioBahnhof Wissen into the Kroppacher Schweiz.
A small educational tree trail was newly opened here in 2023 along the path – a project by the city of Wissen, students of the Kopernikus-Gymnasium Wissen, and several donors. In total, 22 trees are presented along a stretch of about 500 m on the hiking trail, from the bird cherry to the sycamore maple.
Drive to 57537 Wissen, Am Schützenplatz.
Use the train (Sieg route Cologne-Siegen) to Wissen (Sieg). From the RegioBahnhof Wissen (in front of the main entrance, stairs), follow the yellow-green marked access path to the Westerwaldsteig. This leads through the urban area of Wissen via Rathausstraße, Im Kreuztal, then left into Am Schützenplatz street to the start.
Park at the end of Am Schützenplatz street in Wissen, on the left on the gravel side strip (opposite the large Schützenplatz).
The educational tree trail begins directly above the Schützenplatz in Wissen, which can be reached via the Am Schützenplatz street. From the portal sign, simply follow the information boards along the roadside uphill to the last board. In the middle of the path, there is a small seating area made of natural stones.
The small educational trail can be perfectly explored as part of a hike from the RegioBahnhof Wissen on the marked access path to the Westerwaldsteig (Wissen-Kroppacher Schweiz).
The Köttingsbach valley ends at Köttinger Weg, 57537 Wissen (upper end of the valley or return to the start)
