Wisserland - Holschbach Circular Route

Description

Family-friendly and close to nature – one of the most beautiful circular routes in Wisserland invites you to hike.

After starting at Hof Hagdorn with the several-hundred-year-old oaks, go over the ridge, past Hof Galgenberg, to Hof Holschbach. Up to this point, enjoy fascinating views over the Wisserbach and Holperbach valleys. From Hof Holschbach, descend into the beautiful valley of the babbling Holperbach. Next is Hof Holpe with the completely renovated, attractively designed former farm of the Kern family. Then the route follows the idyllic Holperbach, passing a red deer enclosure, to Kaltau. After an ascent back to the starting point, you can linger at Hof Hagdorn if you wish (information/registration for barbecue area etc. at www.hof-hagdorn.de).

Public transport

Use the train (Sieg line Cologne-Siegen) to Wissen (Sieg). From the RegioBahnhof there are 2 options:

- You can take the bus (lines 261, 259) towards Realschule/Altbel. Get off at the Gymnasium stop. Directly uphill above, along the forest cemetery, runs the connecting path to Natursteig Sieg (yellow marking). Follow it about 30 minutes to above Hof Holschbach, where you join the Holschbach circular route.

- From the RegioBahnhof, follow the connecting path to Natursteig Sieg (yellow marking) to above Hof Holschbach, where you join the Holschbach circular route.

Parking

Park at the free parking lot directly at Hof Hagdorn (Hagdorn 1, 57537 Wissen).

Directions

After starting at Hof Hagdorn, follow the ridge, passing Hof Galgenberg, to Hof Holschbach. Up to this point, enjoy fascinating views over the Wisserbach and Holperbach valleys. From Hof Holschbach, descend into the beautiful valley of the babbling Holperbach. Next is Hof Holpe with the completely renovated, attractively designed former farm of the Kern family. The route then follows the idyllic Holperbach for a longer stretch, passing a red deer enclosure, until reaching Kaltau. Before the village entrance, turn right and ascend back to the starting point.

From Wissen RegioBahnhof (hiking station on the Rhineland-Palatinate timetable), a connecting path leads to the Natursteig Sieg (yellow marking) up to Hof Holschbach, where you can join the circular route.

Safety instructions

• Wear sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate, practical clothing that protects you from cold and wet or heat and sun.
• Bring enough fluids. There are not always places to eat, including not directly on the Holschbach circular route.

Tips

After descending into the Holperbach valley, there is a ford with stepping stones straight ahead. The detour from the hiking trail is worthwhile to cool your feet in summer.
