Route profile
Notice
In the tour planner we inform you under the tab "Current info" about temporary route changes, closures and detours.
The last stage along the Wied starts at the Neuerburg campsite in Niederbreitbach. Particularly impressive is the viewpoint over the Wied loop at Bürder. Up to Melsbach, the path partly follows narrow tracks toward the destination. Along the way, repeated views open up of the meandering Wied. A detour to the Laubach waterfall is worthwhile here, which plunges over 20 meters in several stages downhill. Together with other marked trails, you reach the imposing Altwied Castle, which rises picturesquely above the Wied. The ancestral castle of the Counts of Wied is a real photo highlight and can only be viewed from outside. The district of Altwied welcomes you with its pretty half-timbered houses from the 17th and 18th centuries and the Gothic St. Antonius village church. In the district of Niederbieber, the route crosses the Wied side again (junction "In der Lach"/"Am Steg"). From here you follow the access signage "Blue W on yellow background" to the confluence. In Irlich, your hiking destination, the Wied flows into the Rhine. Finally, treat yourself to a visit to the public castle park of Neuwied, from where you can also reach the beautiful Deichuferpromenade.
Take the A3 to the Neustadt/Wied exit then via L252/L255 to Waldbreitbach

At the Neuerburg campsite in Niederbreitbach, you set off on the last stage along the Wied. The path turns into a natural trail after 800 meters, which you follow for 200 meters until you cross the river on the left and after 200 meters turn right onto a gravel path. You follow it for 900 meters and come directly to a loop of the Wied, which you follow for 1.2 kilometers while taking in a view of the Marienkapelle Bürder. Your route leads uphill and changes from a path to a natural trail. You turn sharply left and continue your hike uphill for another 500 meters before heading downhill to the left along a natural trail. After 900 meters, you reach the village street of Datzeroth, turn left, and then immediately right onto a natural path that leads back into the village street after a few meters. You go right and then immediately left again, following the path into the forest. This runs parallel to the river through the wooded Rhein-Westerwald Nature Park and after 1.8 kilometers turns into a natural trail. Here you also walk again parallel to the Wied with some small bends and after 1.3 kilometers reach the Laubachsmühle. You follow the river loops for 1.6 kilometers, past Melsbach, to the road to Altwied. There, you leave the castle ruins on the right and walk a few meters further and cross the bridge to the other side of the Wied. You turn left and walk a stretch along the street "Am Brückenstein" and then on a natural trail parallel to the Wied for 1.8 kilometers to Segendorf. There, you cross the bridge to Austraße and immediately turn right. To your left is Niederbieber and on the opposite riverbank Rodenbach. After a kilometer, you change the river side again and continue walking left to Nordhausener Straße. After 100 meters, you keep left and follow the Wied for about a kilometer over a natural path and a trail, past Nodhausen, until you reach a gravel path. The path is lined with meadows, on the right the residential areas of Irlich begin and you can see the Wied. After a kilometer, you turn left and continue past the Phalwiese directly to the river. There, you keep right and walk the last 900 meters to Brunnenstraße, turn right and at Schultheiß-Damen-Straße turn left. After 300 meters, you reach the Rhine directly and have reached your destination.
