Wiedweg 06. Etappe Arnsau - Niederbreitbach

Description

Today I start in Arnsau. First, my way follows the Wied over a loop past Oberbuchenau to Roßbach and further into the lower Wiedtal. Especially this first section of the stage paints an untouched picture of the Wied. Wild vegetation and the partly wide riverbed of the Wied let me forget everyday life. In Roßbach I recognize the basalt dome Roßbacher Häubchen from the valley. Another highlight of the tour is the monastery St. Marienhaus on the monastery hill in Waldbreitbach above the Wied. I am impressed by the Bible garden, where many of the more than one hundred plants grow that were already mentioned in the Bible. The Waldbreitbach Franciscan Sisters have created a creation path through the gardens as well as the surrounding orchards and wetlands. For sure I will return one day and take part in one of the courses for herb cultivation or in a herb hike. The destination of my hike today on the Wiedweg is Niederbreitbach at the confluence of the Fockenbach and the Wied. Here, at the end, I don't miss the Claus Chapel, which is well worth seeing and whose core dates back to the 14th century.

Directions

From the parking lot at the closed Hotel Wiedfriede in Arnsau, I walk along the L255 to the bridge over the Wied and turn right onto a path. Along the forest and the bank I follow the course of the river. After about 1.7 kilometers I walk past Oberbuchenau and after another kilometer I reach Niederbuchenau. There the path makes a right turn and moves away from the Wied. On my left is a camping site and after 100 meters I turn right into the Buchenauer Weg and meet the Wied again. At the bridge, I walk along a gravel path on the bank that passes Roßbach. After 900 meters I discover a small pond, turn right and walk 500 meters past two more ponds. I go left across the Walbach and then left past a small wooded area. The path makes a bend to the right and leads me again to the edge of the forest, which I follow for 400 meters until I meet the Wied again. I continue walking for one kilometer until I reach the road to Gasbitze. After 600 meters I reach the Camping & Ferienhäuser Wiedhof. I cross the Wied and continue on the other bank towards Waldbreitbach. After 100 meters I turn left and walk 200 meters to the cemetery. There I turn right twice and after 400 meters I reach Waldbreitbach. Here there are many places to stop for refreshments such as cafés, ice cream parlors as well as some restaurants. I turn left into the street "Schmittenberg" and then right into the Oberdorfstraße. After 200 meters I leave it via a path on the left side and almost make a U-turn to Deutschherrenstraße. I cross it and follow the Mutter-Rosa-Straße past a wooded area and a pond over a stream. Then I turn left and walk parallel to the pond and then to the stream course 300 meters slightly uphill. In the forest I turn right and walk about 800 meters past Glockscheid before I turn left into the Klosterbergterassen to the monastery St. Marienhaus. I turn right until I reach Klosterstraße. There I go left and turn right after 200 meters. I follow the forest road for 800 meters and go opposite the Antoniushaus to the left and after 200 meters to the right again. After another 200 meters I turn right and enjoy the far view from the Clausberg. After 300 meters I cross the street "Am Lohnberg" and walk 1.3 kilometers through the Rhine-Westerwald Nature Park to the St. Laurentius Chapel in Niederbreitbach. At the L255 I go to the left and then turn into the Weihergasse. I follow it across the Wied and after a few meters I have reached the camping site Neuerburg in Niederbreitbach.

Safety instructions

• Wear sturdy shoes and appropriate clothing that is suitable for the weather and protects you from the cold and wet or the heat and sun.
• Take enough liquid with you. There are not refreshment stops everywhere.
• Please wear appropriate hiking shoes on the way, which give you enough grip even on slippery and steep or rocky and uneven paths.
• If you are of the opinion that certain sections of the trail are not passable for you, then you should avoid them. Especially in adverse weather conditions, muddy and slippery passages can occur on natural trails.
• Especially in the fall, also be aware that leaves lying on the ground can hide bumps, roots, rocks or holes in the path. You should expect trail obstructions of this nature when you go on a hike.
• Although the trail is very well marked throughout, you should always have a suitable trail map with you for safety reasons.
• Not suitable for strollers
• Not suitable for wheelchair users
