Description

From Grenzau, the route first leads over a small hill to Nauort and then via a serpentine descent into the picturesque Sayn valley. Caution is advised on the descent from Stromberg to Isenburg. (The upper part of the route has been newly asphalted, but there are some potholes in the lower section.)

Now it goes through a low-traffic and idyllic valley along the Iserbach towards Thalhausen. Here, cyclists “climb” through meadows and floodplains up onto a plateau and follow it via Kleinmaischeid to Großmaischeid. From there, it rolls downhill again into the Sayn valley. The Sayn valley is a picturesque and well-developed route, often frequented by local road cyclists. You may even find a group to draft behind. You can follow them to Selters, where a small loop awaits. The route climbs moderately and passes a lake, the Klingelwiese. If the weather cooperates, a great panoramic view awaits at the highest point, before returning via Maxsain to Selters. Here you can stop briefly and refresh yourself before continuing on a small, winding district road to Nordhofen. Here you should loosen your legs again, because the “final climb” leads over Wittgert to just before Ransbach-Baumbach. From here, it flows smoothly through green nature. Faster than expected, Kammerforst is reached. You pedal the last altitude meters up into the village center and proceed cautiously on the short downhill finish (13%!). Now Grenzau – and certainly a culinary reward – is reached again.

Approach

Grenzau is located in the Rhenish Westerwald, 15 kilometers from Koblenz, centrally between the Rhine-Ruhr and Rhine-Main metropolitan areas. Thanks to the good motorway connection, it can be reached quickly and easily at any time of the year. Grenzau is a district of Höhr-Grenzhausen, the “capital” of the Kannenbäckerland, situated in the middle of the Brexbach valley and surrounded by forest and meadows.

Motorway:
