In the tour planner we inform you under the tab "Current info" about temporary route changes, closures and detours.
From Grenzau, the route leads over a first hill to Nauort and down a serpentine descent into the picturesque Sayn valley. Caution is advised on the descent from Stromberg to Isenburg. (The upper part of the road has been newly resurfaced, but the lower section has some potholes.)
The further route initially goes right through the "recreational area," i.e., past the Westerwald Lake District. A little later, the athlete passes the "Stöffel Park," where a 24-hour mountain bike competition is held annually. There is no time for a museum visit, as the route follows the original course of the final lap of the Rheinland-Pfalz Rundfahrt in Bad Marienberg. Feel like a pro! In Bad Marienberg, the ice cream parlors on Bismarckstraße invite you to a coffee stop, and Marcel Wüst can tell stories of sprints he once contested on this street. The finish line was then approximately at the level of the Sparkasse, where a metal cyclist figure reminds visitors and is available for a souvenir photo. Refreshed, the route now heads past the Basaltpark towards Wiesensee (again a great panorama), before reaching Westerburg with its characteristic Schlossberg. The route then continues towards Wallmerod, also taking a piece of the beautiful bike path (former railway line). The next highlight is the descent from Heilberscheid into the Gelbach valley. The Gelbach valley—hotspot for local road cyclists—is followed for a short distance before the hilly finale begins. Noteworthy here is especially the proximity to the former (Roman) Limes wall and the climb "Bierhaus to Eitelborn." First beautifully running through green serpentines, this climb culminates in a steep passage through the village of Eitelborn (home of the professional triathlete Boris Stein). Imagining fans along the roadside, you might think you are in the finale of one of the famous Belgian road racing classics. Via Neuhäusel and Hillscheid, the route then continues somewhat more relaxed to Höhr-Grenzhausen. There, you pass the beautiful, newly designed pedestrian zone with road bike-friendly cobblestones before rolling back to Grenzau.
Grenzau is located in the Rhineland Westerwald, 15 kilometers from Koblenz, centrally between the Rhine-Ruhr and Rhine-Main metropolitan areas. Thanks to good motorway connections, it is quick and easy to reach at any time of the year. Grenzau is a district of Höhr-Grenzhausen, the "capital" of the Kannenbäckerland, lies in the middle of the Brexbach valley and is surrounded by forest and meadows.
