Hiking Trail
Route profile
Notice
In the tour planner we inform you under the tab "Current info" about temporary route changes, closures and detours.
From the parking lot in Anhausen, the hike leads us via the Iserbach loop in an anti-clockwise direction eastwards out of the village. We walk through the Steinebach valley, past the Hausenborn church ruins to Isenburg. We leave the castle and the church on the right and climb the Ebenfeld before descending again into the Iserbach valley and to the Thalhauser mill. Here, hikers are offered a shortcut to Anhausen (marked in yellow) as an alternative route.
The Wäller Tour continues through the Iserbach valley, past numerous fish ponds, to the idyllic rest area at Veltens Weiher. The route continues gently uphill through the Siehrsbach valley to Rüscheid with wonderful panoramic views. Back in Anhausen, we pass the Protestant church and soon reach our starting point.
The Wäller Tour Iserbachschleife is quite challenging with its sometimes steep inclines and a length of 20.8 km. For this reason, a 3.2 km shortcut is offered between Thalhauser Mühle and Anhausen (marked in yellow). This cross-connection allows the Iserbach loop to be divided into two moderate stages. The northern loop leads via Rüscheid to Thalhauser Mühle and from there via the shortcut back to Anhausen. It has a length of approx. 15 km. The southern loop leads via Isenburg to Thalhauser Mühle and from there back to Anhausen. It is just under 12 km long.
The Iserbach loop is certified as a premium hiking trail by the German Hiking Institute and currently has 70 experience points.

There are further parking options for starting the hike in Isenburg (Hauptstraße 36), at the Thalhauser Mühle and in Rüscheid (Dorfgemeinschaftshaus, Schulstraße 4).
The starting point of the "Wäller Tour Iserbachschleife - Hiking in the Rhine-Westerwald Nature Park" is in 56584 Anhausen, parking lot Auf dem Löh. Here you will also find 2 e-charging stations with 22 KW each. There is also an information terminal at the parking lot with information about the region.
From the parking lot, we walk counter-clockwise past Meinborn - where we enjoy a great view - into the Steinebachtal valley. We walk along an enchanted path alongside the babbling brook and turn right at the "Am Steinbruch" refuge to the Hausenborn church ruins. Now we follow the path down into the Saynbach valley to Isenburg. The path then climbs quite steeply again. A detour to the ruins of Isenburg Castle and a visit to the parish church of St. Katharina are well worthwhile.
We reach the Iserbach valley via the "Wasserweg" with two wonderful seats with a view of Isenburg and cross the K 113 and the Iserbach, which gives its name to our hiking trail, on the way to the Thalhauser mill. From now on, we encounter large and small fish ponds, the water flows and gurgles, and we feel the abundance of water in this wonderful spot. Finally, we arrive at Veltens Weiher and enjoy a rest at the beautiful group of tables.
From there, the path leads us straight into the Rüscheid district with the new nature trail "Dremherem em Reschd" (Around Rüscheid). Lovingly created information boards make us curious about this place. At the highest point, we cross the L 258 (be careful!) and enjoy the wonderful view of the Jahrsbach valley opposite at the Bürgermeister-Wink-Hütte. We pass the Himmelsteich pond and the sports field and continue across lush meadows to a small viewing platform. On a clear day, hikers can enjoy an almost panoramic view from here, reaching as far east as the Großer Feldberg in the Taunus (70 km). The path leads through a mysterious forest back to Anhausen, allowing us to enjoy further views along the way. The final highlight is the historically impressive Anhausen church from the 13th century.
If the entire route is too long for you - the path is quite challenging in some sections - you can choose a 3.2 km shortcut between Thalhauser Mühle and Anhausen (marked in yellow), which allows you to split the Iserbach loop into two stages.
Ankle-high hiking boots are recommended, and hiking poles are highly recommended, especially in wet conditions.
The Isenburg attracts visitors with beautiful views of the colorful springtime nature.
