Directions

From the free parking lot, a short access path leads to the International Crib and Bible Museum on the western outskirts of Waldbreitbach. Here, the path quickly enters the shady forest and winds along a narrow trail above the town on the hillside. The roofs of Waldbreitbach repeatedly glimmer through the trees. Behind the campsite, cross the pedestrian bridge with a beautiful view of the lively Wied. From now on, it zigzags uphill. First, climb a vegetated viewing rock on a narrow path, where there is also a lovely view of the Wied valley. Then descend briefly to the deeply and steeply cut valley of the Hochscheider Bach, which leaves wild traces, especially after rough weather. Steadily uphill, the route reaches the fantastic Bärenkopp with summit cross and resting bench. A great view invites you to take the first break here.

Along the outskirts of Verscheid to scenic highlands between the Wied and Fockenbach valleys. Wide views to the west, south, and east sweeten the stroll over the meadows and field paths. Having just enjoyed the hilly Westerwald, the charming Luh chapel awaits, encouraging one or the other to pause.

In the middle of the meadow landscape on the edge of Glockscheid, with a great view over Hausen (Wied), the neo-Gothic towers of the St. Marienhaus Monastery rise. The motherhouse of the Waldbreitbach Franciscan Sisters was built in 1886 and is worth a short visit. A steep path curves down from the monastery to Waldbreitbach before crossing the Wied again. On the last part of the round, the Westerwald-Steig accompanies the course of the winding path along the wooded slope back to the starting point.

Alternative route (yellow marking):

In Verscheider Seifen, there are steep path sections on the right at about 400 m. A yellow marked access path is an easy-to-walk alternative route with a gentle, consistent incline. After about 850 m, you will rejoin the WällerTour Bärenkopp.
