Notice
In the tour planner we inform you under the tab "Current info" about temporary route changes, closures and detours.
The enticingly varied Wäller Tour Bärenkopp has been certified by the German Hiking Association as a "Qualitätsweg Wanderbares Deutschland" with the addition "Traumtour". It leads us on both sides of the lively Wied and along many inviting narrow paths and nature trails to the heights of the Westerwald near Breitscheid-Verscheid. We enjoy the wild Hochscheider Seifen - a natural beauty with washed-out basalt pools. The Bärenkopp with its summit cross at an altitude of 304 m offers us a fantastic view of the idyllic Wiedtal valley. The bench here invites us to take a well-earned rest.
We stroll along meadow and field paths until we return to the beautiful mixed forest. Shortly before the end of our tour, we are invited to enjoy a welcome refreshment in the Kneipp pool, right next to the WesterwaldSteig trail.
Along and not far from the trail, there are small and large ecclesiastical buildings to admire - such as the pretty Luh Chapel, the St. Marienhaus Convent of the Franciscan Sisters of Waldbreitbach with a magnificent view from the sun terrace, the pretty Kreuzkapelle Chapel on the banks of the Wied and the traditional St. Josefshaus Convent of the Franciscan Brothers.
We look forward to your ratings and comments on this hiking trail via Outdooractive. Thank you very much!

From the free parking lot, a short access path leads to the International Nativity Scene and Bible Museum on the western edge of Waldbreitbach. Here, the path quickly dips into the shady forest and swings along the slope on a narrow path above the village, with the roofs of Waldbreitbach flashing through the trees again and again. Behind the campsite, cross the pedestrian bridge with a beautiful view of the lively Wied. From now on, the route zigzags uphill. Climb up an overgrown viewing rock on a narrow path, which also offers a beautiful view of the Wied valley. A short descent to the deep and steeply incised hollow of the Hochscheider stream, which leaves wild traces, especially after rough weather. Steadily uphill, the route reaches the fantastic Bärenkopp with its summit cross and rest bench. A great view invites you to take your first rest here.
Along the outskirts of Verscheid to panoramic plateaus between the Wied and Fockenbach valleys. Sweeping views to the west, south and east sweeten the stroll along the meadow and field paths. Having just had your fill of the hilly Westerwald, the pretty Luh chapel is waiting to encourage you to pause for a moment.
In the middle of the meadow landscape on the edge of Glockscheid, with a fantastic view over Hausen (Wied), the neo-Gothic towers of the St. Marienhaus monastery rise up. The motherhouse of the Waldbreitbach order of Franciscan nuns was built in 1886 and is well worth a short flying visit. A steep path winds down from the monastery to Waldbreitbach before crossing the Wied again. On the last section of the loop, the Westerwald-Steig trail follows the winding path along the wooded slope to the starting point.
Alternative route (yellow markings):
In Verscheider Seifen, there are steep sections of path on the right for just under 400 m. A yellow-marked access path is an easy alternative route with a gentle, even gradient. After approx. 850 m you come back to the WällerTour Bärenkopp.
