Detailed description

Bird Trail in the Holzbach Gorge

In 2020, the circular path has been provided with fascinating signs about bird species that can be found here, which make the excursion into the Holzbach Gorge even more varied. The idea and its implementation came from the biologist and even internationally known DJ and biologist Dominik Eulberg. Each of the signs provides information about a bird and carries a QR code through which its call can be heard. Dominik Eulberg wants to bring people a good deal closer to nature. Nature conservation - a topic that has long been a top priority in the Westerwald. Just how rewarding this commitment is is best seen for oneself during hikes or walks in our beautiful protected areas. Holzbachschlucht nature reserve near Seck and Gemünden - a carefully developed nature reserve with steep rock faces and boulders. Since 1929 a nature reserve between the Dappricher Hof (located between Winnen and Seck) and Gemünden. The Holzbach stream has dug a path through the basalt here before flowing past Gemünden towards Hesse. The gorge is about 1 km long and up to 30m deep. On both sides of the brook a path leads the hikers through the nature. One should plan for a distance of about 45 minutes. Sturdy shoes are recommended even in the dry season. In wet weather or after extensive rainfall, it can be very slippery on the stones and roots of the path. Information boards along the way explain the local flora and fauna to visitors. Circular trail with refreshments.
