The clear, fresh Westerwald air of the Eisenbach valley blows on our noses at the start of our bike tour. Slightly uphill, we rush into the forest, see the Kauten mill, cross the medieval bridge and roll from the Eisenbach valley into the Gelbach valley. In Reckenthal, we can admire the artistically crafted wooden sculptures lining the path towards Untershausen. Varied landscapes of fields, forests, and meadows blend into each other. At the village fountain in front of the beautiful town hall in Welschneudorf, we cycle again towards the shade-giving deciduous forest. The forest path is broad as we follow deep into the woods. Small roadside shrines are pretty to see, and we enjoy the wonderful quiet. Here and there, a squirrel is startled and flees. Where our bikes touch asphalt again, we leisurely roll on farm roads heading to Arzbach. High above the community, we see the Limes tower – in the valley, we stand before the impressive half-timbered town hall, near which the "Gaststätte am Rathaus" invites us for refreshment. Uphill, we pedal to Eitelborn, whose late medieval castle ruin Sporkenburg from the 13th century invites for a photo stop. Then we continue effortlessly to Neuhäusel, at the end of which we disappear again into the dense forest area of the Nassau Nature Park. Where the forest opens up lies the picturesque Hillscheid, whose reconstructed Roman fort as well as the Roman watchtower attract attention. The disused railway line is now a popular meeting spot for hikers and cyclists and leads to Höhr-Grenzhausen, whose name is inseparably connected with "pottery & glass." A material that undoubtedly determines the rhythm of the town. This is impressively demonstrated by the exhibits in the "Ceramics Museum." A culinary refreshment is offered by the café "Gelateria," whose large ice cream and cake counter is irresistible to anyone with a sweet tooth. From here, it goes uphill directly out of town to Hilgert, the "pipe baker's community," whose history dates back to the Thirty Years' War, when troops once demanded clay pipes to smoke their herbs. The ride goes downhill through Ransbach-Baumbach with the Erlenhof lake, at whose shore the Erlenhof chapel is well worth a visit. Far in sight is the "Westerwald Cathedral" in Wirges, whose tall church spire points directly to Dernbach. Proudly appearing is the Baroque landmark (castle) of Montabaur, at whose feet a true cornucopia of attractive sights gather. Montabaur is also the "shoemaker town." This funny nickname was given to the town, over 1000 years old, when in the mid-19th century shoemaking was practiced by the dozen. This is still commemorated today at the New Market Place by the "Shoemaker Fountain." Opposite, we see the Wolf tower, a bulwark that once reinforced the city wall, along which we now stroll to the neo-Gothic town hall. Historic half-timbering, narrow streets, and the mighty town church shape the image here. Also rustic venues where one can take a wonderful break. Through winding forest paths, we reach Wirzenborn in the Gelbach valley, whose famous pilgrimage church and Madonna from the 14th century attract thousands every year. Around the corner of the 100-inhabitant village, we see the village inn "Wirzenborner Liss" with the motorcycle museum, whose history documents seven decades of motorized two-wheelers. For the last time today, we cycle through a wonderful forest area to the chapel "Bildches Eich." Then we roll towards Großholbach, whose "count's half-timbered house" is the last notable landmark on the way back to the Studentenmühle.
