On the eastern narrow side of the Untermarkt, the count’s official, Court Councillor Andreas von Meuser, had his residence built in 1639. It has been owned by the local council since 1818. To adorn the façade, von Meuser had a magnificent portal carved, complete with a delicate bay window. The entrance is adorned with the meaningful inscription ‘Peace to those who enter – prosperity to those who depart’. Following extensive renovation and the uncovering of the half-timbered structure, the town hall has become a gem of art and cultural history. With its charming little bell tower and the rich, colourful decorative carvings in the entrance area, it reflects the prosperity of the small-town bourgeoisie in the 17th century.
