Gatehouse of the Old Rent Office Junkernthal near Niederfischbach/Wehbach

Brief description

Noteworthy half-timbered portal of the Junkernthal estate from the year 1743.

Detailed description

From the inscription on the "Old Rent" in Junkernthal, it is evident that A(nno) 1743 D(omin)I August 14, a Caspar Heines, carpenter from Friesenhagen, built the building. The "Old Rent" is the gatehouse of the estate Junkernthal and is located directly on today's Ruhr-Sieg cycling path in the Asdorf Valley (Druids.Witches.SiegerLand).

Here lived the estate manager and rentmaster. There is an interesting story about the former rentmaster who lived there.

So the last postillon Keisinger from Wehbach, who rode the route Friesenhagen-Kircherhütte, loved to fish illegally in Junkernthal. The rentmaster had long suspected this postillon but could not catch him in the act. The postillon was aware of this, so one day (around 1920) he decided to play a prank.
He bought two herrings in a shop, went to Junkernthal, and placed the herrings in a small puddle, moving them back and forth a little. Shortly thereafter, the enraged rentmaster appeared and triumphantly said: "So! We have caught the fish thief!" However, the postillon confidently replied to the rentmaster: "Surely it is still allowed to let a few herrings swim in the Asdorf!" At that moment, the rentmaster realized that he had celebrated too soon and had fallen for a prank.

Near the gatehouse, there is also a pigeon house still preserved, which, due to its construction, resembles a Chinese pagoda.
