Description

From the station in Ingelbach, first go to the "German Corner of the Westerwald" – an idyllic spot where Kleine and Große Nister flow together. From the viewpoint Spitze Ley, your gaze sweeps over the beautiful landscape of the Kroppacher Schweiz. After these relaxing moments, it gets more demanding with the Weltende nature trail and its partly alpine route. After a steep ascent, you will be rewarded with the Sonnenberg viewpoint. The WesterwaldSteig then leads you over the Sonnenweg to Marienthal with its eponymous monastery.

Public transport

The Hessische Landesbahn runs on working days once daily with a direct connection between the two stations (departure approx. 17:10, travel time approx. 19 minutes). At the following times, the Hessische Landesbahn runs on working days with a change in Obererbach (travel time approx. 40 min.):

Directions

The access path from Ingelbach station to the main path near Heuzert is about 3.5 km long. From the Kreuzweg in Marienthal, an approx. 500 m long access path leads you to Marienthal station (request stop!).

The access paths are marked with a green "W" on a yellow background, and the signposts have a yellow arrow tip.

Safety instructions

  • If you consider certain path sections not walkable for you, you should bypass them. Especially in adverse weather conditions, natural paths can have muddy and slippery passages.
  • Especially in autumn, pay attention that leaves lying on the ground can cover unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. You must expect such path impairments when hiking.
  • Although the path is very well marked throughout, you should always carry a suitable hiking map for safety reasons or download the free "Experience Rhineland-Palatinate" app.

Equipment

  • Wear sturdy shoes as well as weather-appropriate, functional clothing that protects against cold and wet or heat and sun.
  • Take enough fluids with you. There are not dining options everywhere.
  • Please wear hiking shoes suitable for the path, which also provide sufficient grip on slippery and steep or rocky and uneven paths.

Tips

Park your car at the destination and first take the train to the start point of your route. Then you can hike back relaxed and without time pressure.
