CITY CYCLING 2026: Oranienstadt Dillenburg cycles again for a good climateWith spring comes the joy of cycling, and many people take the opportunity to become active. Cycling is not only healthy but also an environmentally friendly alternative that helps reduce CO2 emissions and avoid rising fuel prices. For these reasons, Oranienstadt Dillenburg and the city of Haiger are once again planning to participate together in the CITY CYCLING campaign of the Climate Alliance. For Dillenburg, this will be the fifth consecutive participation. The kick-off event is scheduled for August 8, 2026, at around 1:00 PM, together with cyclists from Haiger. Further information will follow. From August 8 to 28, 2026, all citizens are invited to make their daily journeys as climate-friendly as possible by bicycle. They can collect kilometers for their team and the city of Dillenburg. Participation is open to everyone who lives, works, goes to school, or is a member of a club in Dillenburg. To participate, interested individuals only need a bicycle and to register at www.stadtradeln.de/Dillenburg. There, they can either join an existing team or form their own team with friends, colleagues, classmates, or family. After registration, the goal during the campaign period is to collect as many kilometers as possible. The distances covered can be recorded through the free CITY CYCLING app, online, or by hand on paper at the responsible contact persons in the municipalities. When using the app, the collected cycling data is anonymized and evaluated, providing Oranienstadt Dillenburg with valuable information for traffic planning. For example, bottlenecks in cycling traffic can be identified and specifically addressed.Mayor Friedrich Dehmer welcomes the initiative: “I am pleased that Dillenburg is participating in CITY CYCLING again, and I am curious to see how many cycling kilometers we can collect this year. The CITY CYCLING competition is about having fun cycling and winning great prizes, but above all, it is about encouraging as many people as possible to switch to using bicycles in their daily lives and thereby contributing to climate protection.” The planners of the joint action between Dillenburg and Haiger have already come up with interesting events for this year's city cycling. Ernst-Walter Schramm says: “This year, there will be partially modified prize categories, and there will also be some prizes during joint events with the cities of Dillenburg and Haiger. Just participate, have fun, be surprised, and do something for our environment!”Anyone with questions can find information on www.stadtradeln.de (via the help page) or contact our cycling traffic representatives at radverkehr@dillenburg.de.
Anyone who wants to can register at www.stadtradeln.de/dillenburg.
At the same time as the "Stadtradeln," the campaign "Schulradeln" will once again take place. Schools in Dillenburg will compete in their own category and, by participating in the competition, also advocate for more climate protection. The goal of the "Schulradeln" initiative is to inspire young people to take up cycling early on. It is beneficial for the children, promotes health, and trains muscles, attention, and self-confidence. Michael Lotz, the mayor of the Oranienstadt Dillenburg, who wishes to actively participate in the initiative again this year, stated in his greeting: "I look forward to many enthusiastic cyclists, many wonderful biking moments, and an active Stadtradeln. I wish you much fun in participating and discovering new favorite routes, as well as a safe ride during Stadtradeln 2024."
