Special Exhibition "150 Years of Wilhelmsturm (1875-2025): Monument, Landmark, Place of Remembrance"
The Wilhelmsturm was built from 1872 to 1875 as a monument to the House of Orange, an observation tower, museum, and place of remembrance on the ruins of the Dillenburg Castle, which was destroyed in 1760. Due to its diverse concept, particularly because of its strong connections to the Netherlands, it was a remarkable structure in its time. Today, it is the undisputed landmark of the Orange City of Dillenburg.
On June 29, 2025, the ceremonial inauguration of the monument will be celebrated for the 150th time. On this occasion, the City Archive and the Dillenburg Museum Association will present a special exhibition from May to October 2025 on the ground floor of the tower. Under the title "150 Years of Wilhelmsturm (1875–2025): Monument, Landmark, Place of Remembrance," the history of this extraordinary monument will be vividly displayed and illustrated with exciting and partly newly discovered objects.
The exhibition can be visited starting May 27 during the opening hours of the Wilhelmsturm (Tue-Sun 10 AM-1 PM and 2 PM-5 PM; admission: 4 euros).
In time for the opening of the exhibition, an extensively illustrated accompanying booklet has also been published, which can be purchased at the Wilhelmsturm.
