The Protestant Castle Church of Westerburg
The Evangelical Castle Church Westerburg is one of the most significant historical buildings in the city and together with the castle shapes the picturesque townscape. Construction began in 1517 on the foundations of an older chapel. Particularly noteworthy are the ornate vaulted ceilings, colorful stained glass windows, historical tombstones, and the crypt of the Counts of Leiningen-Westerburg beneath the choir. The church impressively combines late Gothic architecture with over 500 years of history and invites visitors to discover the history, art, and the unique atmosphere of this special place.
Service: every Sunday at 10:00 a.m. in the castle church.
Outside of services, the church is not open continuously. For a visit, it is advisable to make a prior inquiry at the Evangelical Parsonage Westerburg.
