RWW 6: Hadamar/Faulbach

Description

The elevation in the northern part of the town was originally called “Hirschberg.” The name “Herzenberg” comes from the burial of four princely hearts in a chapel built there by Jesuits in the 17th/18th century. Today it is a popular pilgrimage chapel. Visitors like to stay here for quiet prayer or enjoy the enchanting rose garden and the ornamental garden and from there the beautiful view over the town. This circular route leads through the local recreation area “Galgenberg.” On this mountain stood the gallows from the 18th century onwards, whereas earlier executions took place at various locations in the town. Already before 1900, tertiary basalt found in the mountain was quarried as building stone and for producing cobblestones. The trail marking points left above the cemetery. Attractive contrasts between mixed forest and deciduous trees bring variety and color to the landscape. You first reach a valley where the Holzbach meanders through hillside and floodplain meadows. The name of the area “Haltschlag” suggests that the “Halden” (the valley sides of the stream) were cleared of trees here. On the last section, you pass the shooting house, where the “Hubertus” shooting club pursues its sporting and social activities. Guests are welcome both in the clubhouse and on the grounds. The slight climb was worth it, because from the highest point of the Galgenberg – one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the hiking area – there is a unique view of all districts of Hadamar. After a short stretch downhill, you return to the parking lot.

Please wear hiking shoes suitable for the trail, which provide enough support even on slippery and steep or rocky and uneven paths.

If you think certain path sections are not passable for you, then you should avoid them. Especially in adverse weather conditions, nature trails can have muddy and slippery passages.

Particularly in autumn, be aware that leaves on the ground can hide unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. You must expect such path impairments when undertaking a hike.

Tips

Also visit the Herzenberg Chapel, the ornamental garden, and the rose garden on Herzenberg. From there, you can enjoy a wonderful view of Hadamar extending into the Lahn valley.
