Notice
In the tour planner we inform you under the tab "Current info" about temporary route changes, closures and detours.
From Nauort, the route leads down into the Brexbach valley. The typical natural landscape of a mid-mountain stream and the rugged cliffs quickly immerse us in a different world, far away from civilization. Only rarely do work vehicles run on the former railway line here. Otherwise, there are no modern traffic routes over many kilometers down here.
From the Kaiserstuhl, a distinctive cliff high above the stream, we have a view into the Brexbach valley. Just a few minutes' walk further, we look down from the Grenzau castle ruins onto the eponymous medieval town.
From Alsbach and Nauort, we can look far into the distance. The ridge offers the opportunity to let the view drift as far as the Eifel and the Laacher See.
The starting point in Nauort is accessible via state road 307. The parking lot is located in the center of Nauort.
Traveling by bus is possible via line 419 to Nauort. The line does not run on weekends.
Weiherplatz, 56237 Nauort
We start our hike in the center of Nauort. On weekdays, you can also buy supplies here. On weekends, there is also a bakery shop.
Over quiet village streets, we reach the Nauort barbecue hut. Just a few meters further begins the descent down a narrow path into the Brexbach valley. At the Nauort Flösschen, a small tributary of the Brex, we continue hiking downhill along a farm road to the former Nauort station. Here we meet the romantically wild Brexbach. Through the partly gorge-like valley, the hiking trail leads uphill via forest roads and narrow paths. The old railway line still bears witness to the times when trains still whistled through the valley. Attention – sometimes work trains still run on the track.
A narrow bridge crosses the upper course of the Brexbach here. This is where the ascent to the Kaiserstuhl begins. From the rugged cliff, we have a view of the nature-rich valley. We now follow narrow paths over the rocky ridge to Grenzau Castle. Here we enjoy another view, this time over the medieval-looking Grenzau.
We continue our hike over the ridge and are rewarded with views of the entire region at Alsbach. Through the Nauort high forest, it goes back to our starting point in the center of Nauort.
In the Brexbach valley, the mobile network is only available for a limited range over a longer distance.
Sturdy footwear.
In Nauort and Grenzau, there are various dining options.
