Description

A hiking route starts at St. Marienhaus on the monastery hill of the Waldbreitbach Franciscan Sisters. The order was founded in 1863 by Margaretha Flesch, who was beatified as Mother Rosa in 2008. In summer, the monastery hill terraces and the herb and Bible garden invite you to take a break or join a guided tour.

The circular route then leads to the parish church "Maria Himmelfahrt," where the large natural root nativity scene can be admired during the Christmas season. The next stop is the cross chapel on the Wied riverbank from 1694. It served as a residence for Margaretha Flesch and later for the founders of the Franciscan order in Hausen. From there, the route goes to the monastery church of the Franciscan brothers of the Holy Cross, then back towards Niederbreitbach with the Nikolaus chapel, through the Fockenbach valley past the Mother Rosa chapel, and back to the starting point. This 12 km long circular hike can be extended by stops at the Bürder chapel, the pilgrimage church Verscheid, or the Luhkapellchen chapel.

The path is not continuously marked with a sign. It is advisable to use the hiking map Wiedtal at a scale of 1:25,000.
