Created by the sculptor Arnold Morkramer together with Lebenshilfe.
The industrial monument “Shift Change” was created in 2013 by sculptor Arnold Morkramer together with the Lebenshilfe of the Altenkirchen district. The artwork made of corten steel commemorates the many workers in the former rolling mill.
The group of humans was created in part from the own shadow outlines of the participants and therefore brought great joy at the inauguration in May 2014, particularly among the severely disabled employees of Lebenshilfe involved in the project. The individual figures were cut out of corten steel plates with a plasma cutter and arranged in 4 groups.
The art object was produced in the workshop of Lebenshilfe in Altenkirchen, led by artist and sculptor Arnold Morkramer (Bruchertseifen), who was supported by master blacksmith and locksmith Friedhelm Biernat. Both had previously created the sculptures Snapper and Doppler. The group of figures “Shift Change” depicts the daily flows of people that moved from the factory gates of the former rolling mill to the train station and into the town of Wissen during shift changes. At the peak of the hot rolling mill’s operation, up to 3,500 people earned their living here.
In the group photo, the artist (center) as well as helpers and sponsors of the project can be seen. Among those involved were the cultural association kulturWERKwissen e.V. and the town of Wissen.
