Route profile
Notice
In the tour planner we inform you under the tab "Current info" about temporary route changes, closures and detours.
The Krombachtalsperre nature reserve, very close to Rehe, is a paradise for swimmers, water sports enthusiasts, camping fans, cyclists and hikers alike.
The largest body of water in the High Westerwald covers an area of 93 hectares and holds around 4.25 million cubic meters of water.
Sandy beaches and sunny meadows beckon along the shore. Swimming, surfing, sailing, pedal boating - the range of possibilities is almost unlimited, so that even families with children, where everyone has different interests, can combine everything under one proverbial hat. And if the children don't fancy a dip in the cool water, they will love the beautiful children's playground.
Part of the Krombachtalsperre area has been designated a bird sanctuary and provides an ideal breeding ground for many rare marsh and water birds. In addition, countless migratory birds use the Krombach Dam as a welcome resting place.
The Krombach Reservoir is surrounded by dense deciduous and coniferous forests, where walkers and hikers enjoy the tranquillity and untouched nature.
Rehe is located directly on the B255. In the center of the village, a signposted path leads to the Krombach dam and campsite
We recommend traveling by car
Directly at the campsite "Welter's Camping"
The hike begins at the parking lot of Welter's Camping in Rehe.
You reach the lake through a small wood and across meadows. Passing a few ponds, you continue to the former railroad embankment and reach a viewing platform with an information board about the nature reserve. From here you can watch the water birds as well as the sailors and surfers.
There is a nice picnic area further along the route before the path bends behind the dam wall of the Krombach dam. Here you can
about the "Energy Trail" before you reach the sailing club and restaurant on the Hessian side of the reservoir. After a short stretch on a
safe footpath next to the road, the relaxed, quiet forest path leads back to the starting point.
If you are of the opinion that certain sections of the trail are not suitable for you, then you should avoid them. Especially in adverse weather conditions, muddy and slippery passages can occur on near-natural paths.
In autumn in particular, you should be aware that leaves lying on the ground can hide uneven surfaces, roots, stones or holes in the path. You have to reckon with this type of path impairment when you go on a hike.
Although the trail is very well marked throughout, you should always have a suitable hiking map with you for safety reasons or download the free "Experience Rhineland-Palatinate" app.
Wear sturdy shoes and appropriate clothing that is suitable for the weather and protects you from the cold and wet or the heat and sun.
Take enough liquid with you. Refreshment stops are not available everywhere.
Please wear hiking boots that are suitable for the route and offer sufficient grip even on slippery and steep or rocky and uneven paths.
The campsite has the Piccolo Ponte Rosa pizzeria with a restaurant, café and beer garden and a great view over the lake
