Knoten

Brief description

The node is a 605 m high mountain ridge

Detailed description

At the access to the Oberroder Knot, visitors find themselves right at the state border of Rhineland-Palatinate. Just a few steps and they are in Hesse.

Exploring the knot area is worthwhile in every season - whether on foot or skiing in winter.

The knot is a 605 m high ridge and the last eastern outpost of the High Westerwald against the Lahn Valley.

In the knot area, the districts of Westerwald (Ww.), Lahn-Dill (LD), and Limburg-Weilburg (LW) meet. It has long been a borderland and also a watershed and climatic divide. The area is framed by the towns of Oberrod (Ww.), Mengerskirchen (LW), Arborn, Odersberg, Münchhausen, and Mademühlen (all LD).

The highest elevation in the municipality of Arborn has been marked by a summit cross for some time. The knot region forms a closed forest and grassland area that invites hiking, as it is not traversed by public roads. From the old sports field in Mengerskirchen, one can hike kilometers through largely untouched nature to Mademühlen. In recent years, however, numerous wind turbines have been erected on the Hesse side.

In the area of the abandoned settlement of Hahrehausen, the Westerwald Association Adolf Weiß from Mademühlen, the creator of the Westerwald call "Hui Wäller? – Allemol," has erected a monument. Nearby, there is also a newly constructed "sundial" made of massive stone blocks. When there is enough snow, the knot is a popular winter sports area. Then, lifts are in operation, and trails are groomed (Elzer Hut at the Oberroder Knot (586 m), Limburger Hut, and Wetzlarer Hut near Mengerskirchen and Arborn). In the municipality of Mademühlen, model aircraft enthusiasts have set up a place for their hobby at the edge of the forest.
