The Ottoturm is a popular excursion destination in Kirchen (Sieg), on which hikers can enjoy a unique panorama as far as the Siegerland and the Westerwald. Via the Freusburger mill, we take the Kahlberg at 405 meters while hiking on forest and meadow paths. On this plateau, the Otto Tower rises again at 18.59 m - an experience for young and old with a guarantee of distant views in fine weather! On the way back we pass the historic millionaire's villas and two churches.
The Ottoturm circular walk is supervised by the hiking friends "Siegperle" Kirchen (Sieg) e. V. (member of the German Volkssportverband). Hikers who would also like to receive an official rating for the German National Sports Badge can purchase their starting cards directly at the Cafe "Schneiders Bäckerei", Bahnhofstrasse 15, Kirchen, next to the station building at a price of € 3.00 and receive their rating stamp after completing the hiking route .
A leisurely hike to the 19 meter high Otto tower with an excellent view of the Siegtal, Freusburg and Westerwald. Climb 102 steps of the tower - it's worth it!
The approach by car is via the federal road B62 between Siegen and Kirchen. Drive into Bahnhofstrasse,
By train (RE9 - Rhein-Sieg-Express) or bus to the Kirchen (Sieg) train station.

It starts right at the Kirchen train station (Restaurant Casa / Cafe Schneider's bakery) and we follow the green marking of the Ottoturm hiking trail. First we hike along the Sieg river and then cross the Mühlenhof of the historic Freusburger mill from 1750. From now on we will gain a slight incline over the so-called Queckhahn and through the deciduous forest of the Höferhauberges in the direction of the Ottoturm. We climb a meadow path and then the last few meters to the "Ottoturm" viewpoint on the Kahlberg.
Treat yourself to a break (self-catering) and enjoy the all-round view, simply wonderful!
From here the hiking trail will lead us steadily downhill, through the deciduous forest of the Herkersdorfer Haubergsgenossenschaft, above from the residential area "Am Südhang" to the hiking car park "Auf der Sohle". Shortly after arriving in Kirmesfeldstraße, we discover a clicker tournament area on the right-hand side, on whose lanes the Erste Kirchener clickerverein regularly invites you to major tournaments. Do you have marbles (clickers) with you, if so, now is the time to try a little game. If you are of the opinion that certain sections of the path are not accessible to you, then you should avoid them. Especially in adverse weather conditions, near-natural paths can lead to muddy and slippery passages. Especially in autumn, it is important to ensure that the leaves lying on the ground can cover bumps, roots, stones or holes in the path. You have to expect this kind of obstructions when you go on a hike. Although the trail is very well marked throughout, you should always have a suitable hiking map with you for safety reasons.
Wear sturdy shoes and suitable clothing that is suitable for the weather and protects you from cold and wet or from heat and sun. Take enough fluids with you. There are not restaurants everywhere. Please put on suitable hiking shoes for the path, which will give you sufficient support even on slippery and steep or rocky and uneven paths.
Fun: Do you have children with you? If so, just take a few marbles with you! At the playground in Kirmesfeldstr. there are lanes suitable for tournaments.
