Montabaur

ICE-Bahnhof

Brief description

Gare ICE et gare régionale

Detailed description

The ICE station is located south of the motorway and north of the town of Montabaur and has four tracks for stopping and through trains. Local passenger traffic on the DB Siershahn-Limburg line was integrated with one track, as well as freight traffic with three additional operating tracks. In 2000, local passenger traffic and in summer 2002, the ICE high-speed line Cologne - Rhine/Main were put into operation. Striking design elements of the station are the filigree roof construction over the tracks and the spacious entrance portal on the south side (towards the city), designed by the architectural office Jux und Partner from Darmstadt. The structure, which weighs 135 tonnes, is 48 metres long and 34 metres wide, meets all the requirements of a modern railway station. In addition, 82 metres of platform roof ensure that waiting passengers' feet stay dry even when it rains. In a shop passage, 700 square metres of rentable space cater to the needs of travellers.
