Description

The Holzbock hiking trail starts at the community center initially heading east. The first notable point is the old border oak at the boundary between Klein- and Großmaischeid. From there, we hike down along field, forest, and meadow paths to the Ommelsbach. After a short distance, we leave it via the "Heuweg", an old hollow path, up to the "Ebenfeld".

Before reaching Ebenfeld, still in the forest, we turn right into the Iserbach valley. Here, the Thalhauser Mill invites you to linger with food and drink. After a rest, we follow the Iserbach and reach the picturesque pond of ASV Thalhausen. Then we pass the mill farm, commonly known as "Säumühle". The name comes from its pig breeding in former times. Along a romantic forest trail, we reach the Kleinmaischeid barbecue hut and after a final ascent arrive back at the town center of Kleinmaischeid, the starting point of this hike.

Directions

Holzbock hiking trail

The Holzbock hiking trail starts at the centrally located community center of Kleinmaischeid. It covers approximately 12.2 km through forests, meadows, valleys, and fields with very beautiful scenic impressions.

Historically, after starting through the "Löh recreation area" into the forest to the old border oak, the path follows old boundary lines through forest, meadows, and fields. After crossing the road between Klein- and Großmaischeid, we reach the water-rich Ommelsbach valley via solid paths. Here stood the historically first mentioned old foundations of the Maischeid farms "Minkelfey" and the early medieval documented, now no longer existing Kleinmaischeid farms. Old pond remains still indicate an old water ditch system ("Motte of Kleinmaischeid"). Over the "Heuweg" (a still recognizable ancient hollow path), after crossing today's B413, you reach a spacious hill plateau, the area "Ebenfeld". This was already mentioned in old documents from the 9th century AD. Until the 1920s, there was a farmhouse there that during knightly times belonged to a far-reaching estate. It served the "Wiedisch House" at Isenburg Castle as an agricultural supply unit for fruit and vegetables. Today only the unforested, agriculturally used area and a well ruin remain.

Our path branches off in the forest shortly before the actual Ebenfeld to the "Thalhauser Mill" and then follows a section of the premium hiking trail WW-Iserbach loop along the Iserbach. This path takes our hike past modern pond facilities (e.g., the pond of ASV Thalhausen) and past the mill farm to the Kleinmaischeid barbecue hut. Then follows the last ascent towards the town center with the restaurants "Zum Isertal" and "Maischeider Hof". There are further opportunities to stop for food or to end the hike with a hearty meal. Returning to the starting point of the hike, the community center Kleinmaischeid, is then only a very short piece left.
