Description

The Höllkopf is with 642 meters the highest elevation in the Hessian Westerwald and in the Lahn-Dill district. The telecommunications tower was built at the end of the 1970s and replaced the then outdated steel tower. The tower originally measured 108 meters in height, but in 1990 the top 15 meters of the tip were removed as part of the expansion of Siegerland Airport. The upper concrete platform is 78 m high, the steel tip mounted on top is another 15 meters high, so the tower rises 93 m on the Höllkopf and even holds its own against the nearby wind turbines of the Fuchskaute. Meanwhile, the tower has lost many of its parabolic mirrors for microwave radio, now many rod antennas for digital technology adorn the structure. The radio station FFH broadcasts its program here on frequency 106.8. From the nearby Höllberghütte of the volunteer fire brigade Hohenroth, there is a magnificent panoramic view over the Lahn valley to the Taunus in suitable weather.
