The Society for Pet Research e. V. has been operating the Eberhard Trumler Station Wolfswinkel since 1979. Here, primarily the social behavior of dogs is researched. The focus of its work lies in the observation of wild dogs and their hybrids in pack associations.
It is possible to visit the Eberhard Trumler Station Wolfswinkel; this can be done on weekends by prior telephone appointment at the number 02742/6746. Guided tours are also available for school classes on weekdays. There is also the possibility to enter some enclosures. Please pay attention to sturdy clothing.
Research on the social behavior of dogs
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE in the natural behavior of wild and domestic animals, especially between different types of dogs?In 1969, Eberhard Trumler placed these questions at the center of his research, co-founded the Society for Pet Research (GfH) with Konrad Lorenz, and from 1979 built naturalistic enclosures for various domestic and wild animals, primarily canids, on the 1.2-hectare Wolfswinkel. The unique pet biological research station in Europe serves as a common information and exchange platform for scientists, practitioners, and animal lovers. Regular visitor days and training events take place to provide all interested parties with insights into the ongoing behavioral observations of the animals and to share valuable findings. As a non-profit organization, both the research work and the care and feeding of dingoes, donkeys, Bengal cats, chickens, foxes, and raccoon dogs at the Eberhard-Trumler-Station are entirely funded by donations and membership fees.
