Dillenburg’s city center becomes a lively living room

Under the motto “Where people sit, the city comes to life!” the Förderkreis Dillenburg e.V. in collaboration with the city of Dillenburg is launching a new event series that brings life, encounters, and enjoyment to the city center.

With the initiative “Dillenburg opens up,” the city center will transform into a vibrant living room on three selected Fridays and one Thursday. Visitors can look forward to a colorful mix of street food, live music, the flair of a weekly market, and special interactive activities in the area of Markt- and Hauptstraße. On the action days, 13 vendors will set up shop on-site, presenting a rich variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, cheese specialties, clothing, selected Palatinate wines, homemade jams and liqueurs, knitting and wool supplies, spices, and honey. Additionally, visitors can enjoy sweet and savory crêpes, kebab variations, bratwurst, cevapi, and fries. Local restaurateurs and retailers will also open their doors, inviting everyone to relax and stroll around.

The event kicks off on Friday, September 5, with the city center coming to life from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM through a colorful framework program and culinary delights. From 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, André Schüler with “Mir Zwo” will provide cheerful music, while children can have fun on a bouncy castle on-site. Additionally, face painting will be offered for the little guests.

A highlight on the action days is the folding chair initiative: Everyone is warmly invited to bring their own (folding) chair, take a seat, and enjoy the special atmosphere in the midst of the city. The Förderkreis Dillenburg e.V. is keen on transforming the city center into a lively place where people meet, exchange ideas, and spend quality time together. On the action days, a special photo greeting from Dillenburg’s city center will also be sent out. As part of a “folding chair flash mob,” everyone is warmly invited to a group photo with their (folding) chairs at 3:00 PM.

As Dillenburg is focusing on the mayoral election this year, this theme will also be included: Under the motto “Experience politics live,” citizens will have the opportunity to talk to the four mayoral candidates before the election.

Further dates are set for Thursday, October 2 / Friday, November 7, and Friday, December 5.

Whether for shopping, lingering, listening, or enjoying – the event series is aimed at all generations. Dillenburg’s city center is to be strengthened as the heart of the city and to create a space for encounters. This is exactly the aim of the organizers with the new event series, and they hope for many interactions on the four days. An invitation to all: “Bring your (folding) chair, take a seat, and let’s revitalize our lovely city together,” calls the Förderkreis.
