At the foot of the upper town of Westerburg, in the Art Nouveau villa from 1904, the former district administrator's villa, there is now a stylish hotel and restaurant.
In 1905, District Administrator Rademacher was the first to take his official residence and family residence in the then-new building, which also housed the offices for the assessor as well as the personnel and finance departments. Other district administrators followed, whose official functions gained significance through the formation of the former Oberwesterwaldkreis with its administrative seat in Westerburg, created by merging the former districts of Bad Marienberg and Westerburg in 1931. The last district administrator to have his official residence in the villa was Heinrich Lingens, who served from 1957 to 1961, until the new building for the district office was occupied in 1961 on Jahnstraße – which today houses the surveying and cadastre office as well as the police inspectorate.
However, District Administrator Lingens retained his family apartment in this house until 1967. By the way, Lingens was also the last district administrator of the Oberwesterwaldkreis, which was merged in 1974 with the former Unterwesterwaldkreis, which had its administrative seat in Montabaur. Thus, after more than 60 years, the villa had served its purpose for the district.
In August 1972, the family of Heribert Bender senior (+1988) acquired the “OLD DISTRICT ADMINISTRATOR'S VILLA". He converted it for use as a medical center and expanded it for that purpose. After temporary use by the Diakonisches Werk Westerburg, many important specialists for Westerburg and the region practiced in the villa from 1974 to 2005.
After its transformation into a hotel with a restaurant by the family of Heribert Bender junior, the "Old District Administrator's Villa" now houses
13 double rooms, 4 suites, 5 single rooms, a restaurant, meeting areas, as well as a managed outdoor terrace with a fascinating view of Westerburg Castle and the upper town.
