Allmannshäuser Pforte

Brief description

Wayside shrine with statue of the Virgin Mary. Translated with www.deepl.com

Detailed description

According to an old legend there was a small convent at the place where the wayside shrine with the statue of the Virgin Mary hangs today. From this convent a small gate led through the city wall down into the valley. This gate is still popularly called "nun's gate" today. Behind it was the poor quarter of the city, where those who could not afford to live within the walls lived in wretched huts. The street name "Allmannshausen" (from Armenhausen) is derived from this.
