6. Bärenkopplauf starts on August 7
THE mountain/trail run in the Rhein-Westerwald Nature Park on the “WällerTour Bärenkopp” over 11 km with + 360/- 260 m elevation on the first Friday in August, starting at 18:00 (staggered block starts)
The Bärenkopp is the namesake of the premium hiking trail WällerTour Bärenkopp and thus also of the Bärenkopplauf. The WällerTour Bärenkopp was officially opened on May 9, 2015. The certification as a “Quality Trail - Hiking in Germany” with the additional label "Dream Tour" was awarded by the German Hiking Association in September 2015.
The Bärenkopp is a mountain peak near the village of Breitscheid-Verscheid with a white summit cross, from where one has a magnificent view of the Wiedtal and its surrounding heights. The name “Bärenkopp” likely has nothing to do with the predator, but rather “Bär” is probably derived from “bar” in the sense of bald or bare.
