Description

Immerse yourself in a true nature experience on this idyllic circular hiking trail! A varied path awaits you through quiet, shady forests and the impressive Holzbachschlucht with its moss-covered rocks and rippling water. The trail continues to the Hessenblick – a magnificent vantage point with sweeping views over the rolling low mountain landscape. The trail combines nature, tranquility, and spectacular views – perfect for a break from everyday life.

Approach

The town of Rennerod is easily accessible via the B255 or B54. From Rennerod, take the L300 towards Seck; the Holzbach Gorge is signposted.

Public transport

We recommend arriving by car.

Parking

Parking is available in the signposted parking lot at the Holzbach Gorge.

Directions

The hike begins from the parking lot at the Holzbachschlucht with a real highlight: The path leads directly into the wild and romantic Holzbachschlucht. Between moss-covered rocks, ancient trees, and the clear stream, the trail winds through the narrow, natural gorge – it's pleasantly cool here, especially in summer. At the end of the gorge, you continue through open forest patches toward Hohe Hahnscheid and then on to Hessenblick, a viewpoint with impressive panoramic views. A short break is worthwhile here – the bench along the trail invites you to linger and enjoy the view. Then, the hike continues along pleasant forest paths and small trails back to the starting point. The last few kilometers lead through quiet forest passages before you finally reach the parking lot at the Holzbach Gorge.

Safety instructions

If you think certain sections of the trail are impractical for you, you should avoid them. Especially in adverse weather conditions, natural trails can become muddy and slippery. Especially in autumn, be careful that fallen leaves on the ground can obscure uneven surfaces, roots, stones, or holes in the trail. You should expect these types of disruptions to the trail when hiking. Although the trail is well marked throughout, for safety reasons, you should always carry a suitable hiking map or download the free "Experience Rhineland-Palatinate" app.

Equipment

Wear sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate, practical clothing that protects you from cold and wet weather, as well as heat and sun. Bring plenty of fluids. Refreshment stops are not available everywhere. Please wear hiking boots appropriate for the trail, which offer sufficient grip even on slippery and steep, or rocky and uneven, paths.

Tips

Don't forget your provisions! At the Hessenblick, there are rustic tables and benches that invite you to picnic with a great view.
