Meeting point is directly in front of the Druid Stone, 57548 Kirchen-Herkersdorf (Please allow about 15 to 20 min. for the walk from the parking lots)

Approximately 3.5 km long historical-geological tour: Around the National Geotope - From the Celts to the church, mining, and the dispute between Neptunists and Vulcanists

Participant fee: Per person €10.00 and children/youth over 12 years each €5.00

Arrival Information

Parking:

1st Option

Open space in front of the 1st Station of the Cross, 57548 Kirchen-Herkersdorf, approach via Druidenstraße to the beginning of the Historical Way of the Cross or alternatively

2nd Option

Hiking parking lot Druidenstein, approach via Offhausen towards Dermbach to the height of the parking lot (on the right side).


From both parking lots, it takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes to reach the meeting point of the tour at Druidenstein.

Description

We explore the area around the legendary Druid Stone, whose history and geology are illustrated by old reports and anomalies. We will also address the myths and legends formed around it as well as the history of the Stations of the Cross.

Afterwards, we will visit the traces of old ironstone mining and iron ore smelting in the vicinity of the Druid Stone and hike back to the starting point.
