Kirchen (Sieg): Mühlen-Rundwanderweg - Freusburger Mühle in focus

Description

The historic Freusburger Mühle (milled here from 1750 - 1978), located directly on the Sieg River, is the focus of our easy and therefore family and senior-friendly hike through the natural region. Via the so-called Queckhahn, the main hiking trail offers views of Freusburg (now a youth hostel) and the Siegtal. Numerous old villas in the center of Kirchen (Sieg) bring back memories of a time when today's city of Kirchen was still known as "The Village of Millionaires".

The Mühlenrundwanderweg is supervised by the hiking friends "Siegperle" Kirchen (Sieg) e. V. (member of the German People's Sports Association). Hikers who would also like to receive an official rating for the German People's Sport Badge can purchase their starting cards directly in the Cafe "Schneider's Bäckerei", Bahnhofstrasse 15, Kirchen, next to the station building at a price of € 3.00 and will also receive their rating stamp there after completing the hiking route .

Large free PR car park in Bahnhofstrasse behind Netto-Markt (Bahnhofstrasse 21) directly opposite the Kirchen train station.

Directions

We start right in front of the Kirchen train station (Restaurant Casa / Schneider's bakery). From here we embark on an easy hiking tour over the Siegbrücke, past the Da Vinci restaurant on the Siegdamm. Over the Herrenwiese and through a railway underpass we follow our orange marking of the Mühlenwanderweg to the residential area of ​​the Freusburgermühle. Only a few more meters and we reach the historic mill building (popular photo opportunity from the meadows on the other side of the Sieg). Now it's a little uphill over the so-called "Queckhahn". Enjoy the panoramic views of the Jugendburg Freusburg and the Siegtal. Passing the Hardtkopf sports field and the cemetery, we reach the highest point of our hike at the end of Girnsbachstrasse. From now on it goes downhill through the Klotzbachtal and past the Hotel Jägerheim. It is worth taking a detour to the Museum of the City of Kirchen (please note opening times or make an appointment). On the left hand side we discover a small village fountain, which used to be used as a horse trough, and opposite two splendid, old villas. Following the hiking trail we have a view of the Ev. Luther Church and later opposite the town hall to the Catholic "St. Michael Church". The tourist information office is located directly on the town hall square and offers many other suggestions for a stay in the Sieg natural region and the Westerwald.

Safety instructions

If you are of the opinion that certain sections of the path are not accessible to you, then you should avoid them. Especially in adverse weather conditions, near-natural paths can lead to muddy and slippery passages. Particularly in autumn, it is also important to ensure that the leaves lying on the ground can cover bumps, roots, stones or holes in the path. You should expect this kind of obstacle to the path when you go on a hike. Although the path is consistently well marked, you should always have a suitable hiking map with you for safety reasons.

Equipment

Wear sturdy shoes and suitable clothing that is suitable for the weather and protects you from the cold and wet or from the heat and sun. Take plenty of fluids with you. There are not many places to stop for a break. Please put on suitable hiking shoes along the way, which will give you sufficient support even on slippery and steep or rocky and uneven paths.

Tips

Between Freusburger Mühle and the Hardtkopf sports field, follow the sign for the panoramic view, which is only 100 m away from the Mühlenwanderweg.
