An interesting insight into basalt mining in earlier times and exclusive guided tour of the basalt park.
An interesting insight into basalt mining in earlier times. The basalt park is a recultivated quarry with an idyllic basalt lake. A circular trail with information boards provides information about the history of basalt mining in Bad Marienberg. The open-air museum provides interesting insights into the volcanic activity of the region some 25 million years ago. Here you can still clearly see the different types and crystallisation forms of the basalt can still be clearly seen.
