Evangelische Erlöserkirche Wissen

Brief description

Plainly designed church in the town centre of Wissen

Detailed description

The foundation stone for the construction of the simple church was laid on 14.07.1862, but this only concerns the building. There has been a Protestant congregation in Wissen since the time of the Reformation.

The interesting inscription above the entrance portal of the church is worth seeing, and there are also some structural and artistic elements. The initially small Protestant congregation in Wissen grew to over 400 members at the latest with the construction of the railway line through the Siegtal around 1860. This increased the desire to hold regular church services in Wissen, which led to the construction of the church. A few years after the consecration in 1863, the organ, which was largely financed by donations, was built.

After war damage caused by air raids in 1945, the church was rebuilt and completed for the 100th anniversary in 1962.
