Eduard Tower Haiger

Detailed description

The 10-metre-high Eduard Tower was named after the former cloth merchant Eduard Schuhmachers (1832-1880) from Viersen. He often travelled to Haiger as he found the climate very pleasant for health reasons and liked to spend his days looking out over the town of Haiger from the site of the Eduard Tower. In memory of the Rhinelander and his generous donation to the construction of the lookout tower, a white marble memorial plaque was erected with the inscription "Eduard Schumachers from Viersen, born 21 Nov. 1832, died 27- April 1880; erected in memory of 1883".
